I got this receiver about 6 months ago, and I personally love it. As an entrance level system into Dolby Digital, it is perfect (and a great price). The highs are distinct and the bass is clear. It has all the options I would want, with loads of inputs. The only complaint is the remote control, which partly stopped working a few months after I got it. (However, most of the buttons on it still work, just not a few of the "extras") Another thing I sort of dislike about it is the fact that the subwoofer isn't used unless the "sound fields" are on. However, this can be fixed by just using the "Auto-Format Decode", which doesn't change the incoming sound. This thing is powerful, as well. I can turn it up quite loud without distortion, and it sounds excellent. I have the system set up in my bedroom with 4 Bose 101 speakers (relatively small) and they sound excellent (Especially with my subwoofer). I hooked my cd player, computer, vcr/tv, video game systems, and tape player up to it and they all sound great. Unfortunately I don't yet even have a DVD player, so I can't comment on the Dolby Digital sound. However I have my cd player hooked up with the optical in/output, which sounds excellent. I recommend this receiver based on quality and price.
