| richlt's Full Review: Infinity RS-1 |
Wow! These little speakers are great! I had turned my basement into an entertainment area, but something in the stereo set I used was sorely lacking. I knew good things about the Infinity series of speakers so I gave them a try. For $100 at Circuit City, how could I go wrong?
The RS-1s were much heavier and MUCH better made than the speakers they replaced. The wire posts are very nice, with multiple options for connecting your speaker wire. Basic specs: 15-100Watts, 2-way speaker, and 55-20kHz frequency response.
The sound amazed me. My music came alive. My soundtrack of the Blues Brothers sounded new again, I felt like I was right there in the mix! The brass instruments seemed especially realistic. The RS-1s made me not only want to replace all my speakers with Infinity brand, but also made me pull out my music collection and listen to songs again for the first time! The bass response was much better than I expected from a smaller speaker.
However, powerful as they are, you can't turn these up to '11'. I am not one to deafen myself with superhuman decibel levels, but I did turn my amplifier up louder than I normally do, to test out the speakers (80W Receiver). The bass broke up and I quickly turned it down again. You can't have everything in a tiny speaker! In the same note, the RS-1s had no problem filling up my 1000 sq. ft basement with sound!
Bottom Line: If you can get a pair of these for $125 or less, do it! They would also make a great gift for someone who has a decent stereo, but substandard speakers (KLH, Altec Lansing). The RS-1 series of speakers were what convinced me to flesh out my main theater system with Infinity speakers. I am totally impressed!
