CAR AUDIO

Jun 04 '00

if you drive an old car there is a less of a chance you are going to go to a professional. I drive an old car so i decided to learn to do things myself. Installing replacement speakers is quite simple, it is just a matter of connecting positive and negative terminals to the appropiate wire. Speaker enclosures are often easy to take off. Cdplayers, cassette decks are more complicated because you have to take apart the dash. The work is matching up the colors of your factory wires to your new reciever. You have to crimp them, or solder and heat shrink, or even twisting and taping with vinyl tape works also but, from what i read it is not recommended. Adding an amplifier to drive for example subwoofers requires you to find a place to install it, connect a wire to the car battery, connect a wire to your pre amp outputs on the back of your reciever, ground it, and connect speaker wire to amp to speaker. If you are the type of person that changes your own oil, i think you should do your own car audio work. I would only go to a professional if you could afford it, or wanted a championship sounding audio system and wanted to spend the money. Sometimes some places offer deals where they give you speakers, reciever and and amp for cheap and install it, it is good to take advantage of deals like this. If you drive a new car your speakers are good, all you need is bass, so get a subwoofer and a amp. Older cars need bass too, it is just that you have to upgrade your factory speakers also because they could be old paper speakers that are out technology wise and sound dull. To go to a professional depends on the job as well because if you are going to load your car with amplifiers on for example a honda civic, the alternator may not be able to handle it, then your headlights will blink with the bass indicating power being drawn from the battery. You could remedy this by getting a bigger alternator, and/or capacitors. The thing is this takes time.
