| wieges's Full Review: RCA DS2122RD Single LNB DIRECTV System |
Don't let my title to this opinion mislead you, I absolutely love this satelite system. My boyfriend purchased this system for his home about a month ago, and since then I just love watching tv at his house.
We installed the system ourselves, which is the ideal way to go in my opinion. It not only costs less, but it helps you understand the system a little bit more, and gives you more respect for it. One great thing I learned from installing the system ourselves is that there is a great customer service center for this system. We had to call them a couple of times (I never said it was a piece of cake to install), and the people at the customer service were able to help us immediately. It was none of that, "we'll have to get back to you," or even "I'll have to transfer you to another department." The person who answered the phone helped us as much as he/she could, and usually it was the right thing.
After we finally got everything installed we wanted to watch tv right away, and unlike most cable companies we were able to call right away and get connected (I should mention here that we didn't get everything finally installed until around midnight, so most cable companies are closed by then). So at that hour we called the number the store gave us and within about ten minutes we had satellite tv running through the house.
The picture quality was amazing, especially since my boyfriend has a tv with a S-Video input, so its even better. There are so many channels that it takes forever to surf through all of them, thats where the on screen tv guide really comes in handy. It makes it so much easier to use than most cable systems. The other great thing about this system is that they usually have some kind of deals going on so that you get a better set of channels for cheaper. I also like that you don't have to order anything special in order to get your normal stations. Yes, if you want perfect quality you have to pay extra for the satellite to pick them up, but if you just want to be able to watch them occassionally and don't mind a little static you can run your antennae to the system and it will read it in a manner. I think that is just awesome.
The only real problem with the satellite system (and its not really the systems problem) is that there are so many channels, but often they are playing the same things over and over again. There are about five HBO channels with the package my boyfriend ordered, but atleast once a day one or two of them are playing the same movie (and its often Titanic!). I think that if you are going to run more than one movie channel then there should be a variety of movies playing on those channels, I hate having to watch the same three movies over and over again. But like I said this isn't the satellite's problem, this happens with most systems!
All in all i think that this system is a great buy if you want quality tv to watch!! there is something for everyone in the family!!
