| Everclear22's Full Review: RCA DS5451RB DIRECTV System |
When I was reviewing which satellite systems to buy in Fall 98, I did not know much about the available hardware, etc. All I knew is that I wanted to watch NFL and NBA games from other markets, including my beloved Lakers (the NBA lockout kind of hurt that plan, but that is another story).
I went to local businesses to check out the current offering and was blown away by the RCA. The Sony systems were also nice, but the RCA was just so fast with menus and channel surfing that it immediately got my attention. The final piece of the puzzle for me was Dolby Digital support. At the time there was no use of the format, but I knew it was only a matter of time. I still can get only one channel and PPVs w/ Dolby-Digital but it sure makes a difference!! The RF remote is handy since you do not need to 'aim' the remote at the receiver (I have even changed channels from another room!)
And unlike many home consumer products I still consider my receiver top of the line, even a year later. It has never experienced any glitches or bugs and continues to be one of the best performing systems on the market. There are other sat receivers currently on the market that may be on par w/ the RCA, but none are better. If you have the opportunity pick one up and know you have a solid investment. If you happen to be VERY fortunate and can find one used at a good bargain you are REALLY in good shape.
This is a great product and delivers as advertised. I would highly recommend this system if you want a solid, full functioning receiver.
