| phil.marquard's Full Review: Linn Majik Control Preamplifier |
Linn has really done wonders with this product. Though only rated at 33 watts into 8 ohms, this integrated amp is really a top performer in my listening room.
I have had several mass-marketed amps and receivers over the 30+ years that I have been an avid hi-fi buff and some of them sported far higher watts ratings (and even better THD than the Linn Majik). But none of them come close to comparing to the Linn Majik for listening enjoyment.
I can listen to any type of music on this amp and never hear anything but what the recording artist intended. Matched to my Magnaplanar .5 speakers, this combination puts out plenty of punch and gorgeous vocals. It never booms or screeches as low-powered amps are inclined to do. This may be due to the fact that the Linn Majik puts out 66 watts into the 4 ohm load of the Magnaplanars.
The remote control is a joy to use; quite intuitive.
One interesting omission from the front panel is that there are no tone controls. This means you had better audition this amp with your speakers first or couple it with Linn's speakers.
The back panel has the necessary connections to go pre-amp out if you someday step up to a beefier amp.
