| tochriste's Full Review: Creative Labs Nomad II (64MB) MP3 Player |
I did a lot of research before purchasing this MP3 Player. I even owned the Rio 500 for a little while. I do believe that this is the best of the lot, however, there are still some improvements that would make it better.
You wouldn't believe the sound that comes from this attractive, lightweight (80 grams) player! The music comes through rich and crisp and it will make you feel like you are in a world of your own. I wouldn't recommend using the included headset. They are poorly designed and downright uncomfortable. I purchased a pair of Sony Headsets, and it makes a big difference.
The NOMAD II MG comes with 64MB of onboard memory, and has a slot for a SmartMedia card for additional recording which means you can bring the memory up to 192MB. Downloading MP3s is quick and easy with the included software and USB. The MG comes with software for PC and MAC. Most of the titles will show up on the front of the player, making it easy to search for songs. The player also has voice recording and an FM radio, allowing you to tape songs directly from the radio (hence the importance of a lot of memory).
One of my favorite things about this unit is the docking station which allows you to recharge it over and over again. If you've owned an MP3 player without rechargeable batteries, you know how many AA's you can go through, especially when downloading.
Okay, a couple of negatives. The buttons on the side sometimes make it awkward to pick the unit up. You end up pushing the buttons in error. The case that comes with it is ridiculous. It has no clip (not good for runners), is really snug, making it a little difficult to put the player into, and covers up all the buttons that you need to press. Of course, as I mentioned before, the earphones are absurd!
Last, but not least, the pricetag is rather high. MSRP is $299, but if you look around, you can get it for less.
