Violence in games and in real life are not two peas in a pod!
Apr 13 '00
I've played many graphically violent games. I've slaughtered hundreds of aliens, marines, policemen, and other strange creatures. The bloodiest game I've played so far is "Sword of the Berserker" on the Dreamcast. Every time you swing your sword, blood splatters the screen. My opinion on games and violence? It doesn't prepare you for the truth. Flip the channels and take a look at the 5:00 news. There you will see violence as portrayed by the media. But that doesn't necessarily present the violence in the correct way, and is still misleading to our youth. You really don't get desensitized to violence or death until you visit a Morgue or actually witness a true crime. Better yet, unless you are in an actual near death situation, you don't know the reality of it. True violence, true death, true crime is only true when you get that horrible feeling inside that says something bad happened. Its engraved in our human instinct and human psychology. Fortunately, children as just as human as adults, and they know the feeling as well. When a child meets up with a real life situation of violence or crime, their fight or flight reflex will take over, and all the video games in the world that they have played will not aid them in the least.
Its up to the parents and local social groups to present the child with the proper morales. The rest is simply human instinct.
