The CD-ROM version of Scrabble pretty much plays like the standard board game version. You form words crossword style using letter "tiles". Different letters have different point values assigned to them. Generally, the letters that are harder to use are worth more. And there are also certain squares on the board which will double or triple the score of the letter or word that is placed upon them. The player with the highest score at the end wins.
Up to 4 people can play the CD-ROM version or you can choose to play against the computer. You can also play an internet opponent but I haven't tried that option myself.
There are 5 different selectable skill levels.
One difference between this version and the board game however is in the shuffling of your letters. You can't shuffle them yourself. You select the shuffle feature and the computer shuffles them around for you. But you can do this as many times as you want.
Merriam-Webster's Official Scrabble Players Dictionary is included on this CD.
One feature that is cool, especially for children that are playing the game, is "Define Last". Define last will give you the definition of the last word played. That way, if they're playing against the computer and don't recognize a word that was played by the computer opponent...they can look up the meaning.
The game installed easily and I found it easy to use.
