Pros: Pretty graphics. Great depth.
Cons: Not much fun for casual gamer. Car selection is neat but not too fun after awhile.

When I first played Playstation, I saw a demo for GT. I marveled at the cool graphics, the way the cars looked, the neat way it seemed to handle like a real car. I swore that if and when I got a Playstation, this would be one of the games I got.
So I bought it.
It slowly dawned on me that this was NOT the game for me.
Why? Let's talk about the learning curve. Unlike other games where you can instantly get in and start playing, GT requires you to take license tests. Now this was not fun when I was 16, it certainly isn't much fun when I'm 28. Because of the difficulty (to me, anyway) of these tests, I've never gotten through them all. Therefore, I can't get very far in the game.
And that is what stinks. Part of the attraction of GT is the ability to drive a large selection of cars. Unfortunately, you can't get these cars unless you win money in races. And you can't enter many races unless you get the license. Therefore, if you don't have a few hours on your hands, (or great abilities with the PS controls), you are never going to get very far in this complex game.
And frankly, the novelty of driving a certain car wears off when you are pitted against better cars. Part of the thrill of driving games for me is the sense of speed and the fantasy of driving a cool car. Let's face it, when game makers are choosing to make a car game focusing on one model line or type of car, a Hyundai Elantra isn't the first thing they look for.
If you've heard great things about Gran Turismo, they are all probably true. Just know that this game is for hardcore racing fans, not the guy who likes to plug in, race some laps and go to bed. If you want the most out of this game, be prepared to spend hours with it, several of them probably pretty boring.
I didn't like it, but I'm obviously in the minority.
