* Reason For Purchase
My main reason for purchasing this game was because I heard that in this version unlike the original version you can actually dogfight, fly missions, and earn new planes by flying missions! In the original AeroWings you could do nothing but formation flight or aerobatics!
* Graphics
Aerowings2 just like the original had truly amazing graphics! The first time I ever played this game I was truly astounded! Some of the highpoints in the graphics in Aerowings2 are Missile Trails which are highly detailed and visible so you can basically watch your missile until the moment of impact! Also explosions are incredible for example when you hit a plane with a missile you can of course see the fire from the explosion but you also see part of the plane fly in multiple directions and a pilot coming out of the plane in his ejectionseat just before the explosion! Another great thing I noticed which may seem trivial but I had never seen a game with it was a jet trail! If you are running very fast and turn or pull up very hard you actually leave a jet trail! Another interesting spin on graphics in this game is the ability to change the weather! Yes, you can choose from basically any kind of weather from Sunny to cloudy to snowing to fog or even rain! The weather effects are stunning I first noticed them when I had it set for rain and started into a loop because you could actually see the water running off of the cockpit cover! And once I was half done with the loop and pointed down I was out running the rain and for a split second the raid looked to be completely stopped! It was incredible! Also sunsets and sunrises are incorporated into this games graphics like if you turn into the sun on a sunrise you will get glare in the cockpit and will not be able to see your instruments! And to make things more realistic your pilot gets red and black outs from excessive G-force right along with your plane getting g-loc from excessive G-force!
* Gameplay
This game has much improved Gameplay over the original AeroWings! In this version you have to earn you planes not by only aerobatics but by doing pilot training which consists of various maneuvers that a fighter pilot should know but also by going on missions and either destroying as many enemy aircraft within a time limit as possible or by destroying a certain amount of designated targets within a time limit! You are given several game configuration choices in the options menu such as once in the Game Config menu you have the option to turn on or off black and red outs, automatic landing gear extension/retraction which means once you slow down to 200kts you landing gear automatically come down and once you have accelerated to 250kts they go up which i have found to be extremely annoying because if you are trying to reach very high speed or use all of the runway your gear come up before you are off the ground and you end up crashing. Another option is automatic landing brakes which means once you land the computer automatically applies the brakes for you. Also you have the choice of automatic rudder which may sound odd but this is a good option but it only applies to one plane the T-3 because it has a propeller instead of a turbine. What this option does is it automatically uses the rudder to compensate for "torque effect" which is a slight sideways drifting motion of the plane due to the spinning prop! Once you have all of your option set up you are ready to fly! Just go into the training mode to get used to the planes and how they handle after that you are off to Tactical Challenges where you fly in up to 15 competitions that have you destroy designated target or have you hunt and destroy aircraft! These events are held in very interesting places such as downtown of a CITY skyscrapers and all and you have do dodge in and out of them at 400kts to hit your targets! It gets intense but more and more fun! After you complete the Tactical Challenges You are off to Fighter Pilot Missions! This mode is a bit tedious ant first because it make you perform what seem to be and what i thought at first to be "stupid and unnecessary" maneuvers like how to take off, land, perform loops and barrel rolls and even how to land on a carrier deck and yes you can do that in this game and no it isn't some joke where you weren't meant to land on there and you have to brake real hard to stop they actually have a drag wire on the carrier to stop you and a catapult to launch you. These are all to get you ready for the real missions! These lessons really come in handy in the missions especially when you have a missile 300ft off of your tail and you need to lose it fast! Also there is a Personal Data section which displays how many kills you have, how many times you have been shot down, how many times you have crashed, how many carrier deck landings you have successfully done and your total flight hours!
* Multiplayer
This is the best feature of this game! In multiplayer or VS Mode you can fly in any of the levels available to you that you have earned in single player mode and you may also fly the planes you have earned in single player mode but no more! Once you are into 2 player mode and flying the action really starts! You have to use your planes abilities to the Max to destroy your "friend" :) This takes quite some effort its not like in Air Combat where once you lock you can fire and turn away not here buddy you have to have a perfect lock and actually keep it until the missile hits or the probability of it missing grows tremendously! And also missiles actually hitting depend on your angle in relation to your opponent if you are flying straight and level and your opponent it flying strait up in front of you your missile may not be able to turn in time to actually hit!
And unlike most flight sims you have LIMITED AMMO! It is not infinite most planes carry atleast 4 missiles if not more but you don't have thousands to just throw around! Same thing goes with machine guns you have limited rounds and boy do they go fast! Also machine guns are very hard you have to be fairly close and be a very good pilot because hitting a plane that keep changing direction with machine guns is very hard! I have played virtually every flight sim out there and I still have difficulty hitting planes with these guns!
* Overall
I have to admit this is the best flight sim I have ever played! I highly recommend this as a gift or for people wanting a great entertaining flight sim and also for those of you looking for a game that with great graphics and gameplay! As always thank you for reading my epinion and any input on how to better them is always appreciated! DYQ685
Oh yeah P. S. All you wives and girlfriends out there don't buy this game for your husband or boyfriend if you even want to talk to him for the next few days because this game will have him hooked! :)
