asking questions

Jan 23 '00

Ask alot of questions to any jewelry store your go into. That will tell you if they are knowledgeable about diamonds. If they can't tell you about the cut and clarity of the diamonds that is being shown to you, then please excuse yourself and go elsewhere. The person selling the diamonds should be a specialist in what they are doing. Remember, this is a very important and expensive purchase. Look at your paperwork on certified diamonds and read it carefully. Ask questions on the grade of the diamond. Always ask to loupe the diamond that you are looking at. Look for carbon deposits and infractions of the diamond. There are jewerler's selling diamonds for a very high price that is a low quality of diamond.
Don't be taken by the sparkle. You are under very bright lights in any jewelry store. That is to make even the worst diamond sparkle. Go deeper by loupeing the diamond. All jewerler's have one. This is a magnifying little tool that you can look inside of the diamond. There is no diamond that is 100% flawless. But, if your going to pay for a certified diamond loupe the diamond and try to get one that is not covered in carbon spots.
If you can see the flaws with the naked eye please ask to see another diamond. There are bargains out there but, you get what you pay for. Remember this is not a purchase that is made every year and that purchase should be a romantic diamond moment and a remembered momoment for life.
