Yankee Candles/This Southern Girl says 'Thanks'!
Jan 04 '01
It may sound strange that, a die-hard Southerner would, promote something with the name Yankee in it, but this product gets a two thumbs up from me.
Several months ago, my neighbor and I were outside chatting, when she invited me in for a cup of coffee. As I walked inside her house, I was greeted with a soft scent that, I mistook for air-freshener. When I inquired as to what brand she had used, she informed me that what I was smelling were some candles she had purchased from the mall.
As an avid candle lover ( especially scented ones! ), I asked her where in the mall she found these particular candles. She told me of a shop called 'Yankee Candles'. She also said that she had purchased them two months before! She had only lit one or two of them and the rest were in an oblong, plastic container that held 18 candles, she said it was called a sampler. She had the container sitting out and just opened the lid, to enjoy the soft, fragrant bouquet. It was not in the least overpowering. I was so impressed, that I bought some for myself.
Most scented candles, lose their essence after a few hours and burn down too fast. Yankee Candles, (in the sampler) burn for about 15 hours, and never lose their aromatic fragrance. Their samplers, tarts, and pillars, are scented all the way through! The best thing about these candles (besides the wonderful aroma)is that, they use no lead core wicks in any of their products, making them safe to burn with small children in the home. A recent survey has stated that candles with the lead core wicks emit dangerous amounts of lead in the atmosphere. They do advise that you trim the wick(s) to 1/8" to 1/4" before lighting them.
The candles come in a variety of shapes and sizes: Jars, Samplers, Scented Tea Lights, Wax Potpourri Tarts, 3-Wick Parlor Candles, Taper Candles, Ionic Pillar Candles (grooved), and Standard Pillar Candles (smooth). They are American made in Massachusetts and are easily purchased on-line at www.yankeecandle.com. On a scale of one to ten these candles are way over the top! I have only purchased the Sampler, but the price's are so reasonable I would recommend them to everyone. The Sampler has 18 candles ( you can choose whatever scent you like ) and the price was $18.00, making it well worth the purchase. They make wonderful gifts, as you may use them in gift baskets and still have plenty left for your own pleasure.
