MONEY, Honey!
Dec 04 '99
When I was a teenager, I had very picky tastes, and if anyone dared give me an item of clothing as a gift, if I did not approve, it would often hang in my closet, collecting dust. I would never hurt their feelings, but would quietly neglect their token of giving. What can I say? I was spoiled. Seriously, I think almost all teens have this attitude because it is a time in which they want to assert their individuality, and having certain likes/dislikes is just one way in which they do this.
CDs might be something they enjoy, but if you do not have a specific name and CD title to buy, don't even bother trying to pick one out for a teenager. You'll never guess their tastes, and it's nearly impossible to keep up with the latest craze. Someone else reviewed gift certificates, and although that's the next best thing to money, for a teenager, it means having limited choices (as in the fact that they can only shop from the store where the GC is from).
A gift that may seem unoriginal, but that will put a smile on even the
surliest teenager's face is money! I've found that you can't go wrong with giving money to a teenager. This allows them total freedom in choosing what they want, and gives you peace of mind that they will get something they like. Therefore, both the giver and receiver are satisfied. Believe me, they'd rather receive money any day. I know, because my teen years weren't that long ago....(;....and now my sister is a teen (well, almost--she's 12), and money makes her day every time.
