Microwave Mishap

May 08 '00

I purchased a Microwave in 1997, with the manufacturers warranty only being good for 1 year, I decided to purchase the 5 year extended warranty
for $54.99. The extended warranty offered replacement of the microwave if at any time it could not be repaired properly.
In April of this year, I was preparing dinner before I went to work. I put a potato in the microwave, pushed the baked potato button, and ran in to take a quick shower. When I came out of the bathroom, smoke was bellowing out of the microwave. When I opened the door the potato was burnt so bad, I had to scrape it from the plate, which was badly scorched.
I took the microwave back to Circuit City where I purchased it,as I was now afraid that the microwave had malfunctioned and could possibly be a fire hazard. I received a phone call 1 week later telling me that they could not repair my microwave and that they were issuing me credit not only the $149.99 for the microwave, but the $54.99 I originally paid for the extended warranty. Needless to say, I did choose a new microwave and also elected to get the 5 year warranty again. My husband and I have purchased other extended warranty's and have never had to use them. I look at it like this, what would it cost to repair or replace if I did not have this coverage??
