Pros: Cheap Cons: Uninformed tech support, server downtimes, email relay server listed in SPAM databases
I switched to OLM from Hostway a little over a month ago. I chose them based on their features (I needed Miva, PHP, MySQL, and shell access) and their cost. Since moving, I have had more problems than I did at Hostway (whom I also left for various...
Pros: Reliable and a lot of services Cons: Customer Service can be Frustrating
I've got a Reseller's Account with OLM, I've had this acount for 4 months and previously had a regular account for 6 months. I'm a CGI programmer using mySQL so I have generally tested the full features of this hosting service.
Pros: Low Cost Hosting with basic services Cons: Bad Service.
No Redundancy.
Unaware of problems.
Management that hides.
No escalation.
I have a shared hosting plan with OLM and regret ever moving my domain there. Our service is DOWN AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. Their support people say they have to shut the server down to clear out old processes. Amazingly enough, whenever our server ...
Pros: A whopping set of features for very reasonable prices! Cons: They refuse to obey federal law concerning e-signatures.
I've been with OLM for a few years, right after they opened their doors, I think. OLM has been a great company to host a small website with, but I also host our church website with them and have had several issues that (still) remain unsolved. They are ...
Pros: Web page / service reliability, customer service Cons: Essentially no spam protection, Problem if first level customer service can't answer question.
I have had my main domain hosted by OLM for several years now. The things I like about OLM: 1. Reliable hosting. My web page almost never goes down. It's a little more expensive then some other places, but I don't have to worry about the page going do ...
Pros: Great service, great pricing, responsive, great deal for the money, fast set up Cons: Setting up account options & extras is confusing, they need a better manual.
We have several domains hosted by OLM. We have been using them for several years now.
Originally, we had 2 domains hosted with a different company. Due to an error on their part we had some major problems so I decided to shop around.
...
Pros: Great Services and Great Prices, Now Includes Micro Accounts Cons: Doesn't Have Interface for My clients to use.
Through looking around at different resellers packages. OLM is by for the most for the money. I have been with them for almost 2 years and they have been there for when I need something. OLM is always increasing the reseller plan to include more space...
Getting WORSE Every Month!! by websterphreaky ,Mar 26 '05
Pros: Reasonable prices for various full featured plans. Cons: Too frequent outages, servers problems and terrible SPAM software, long phone waits
AS I write this, I've been on hold for over 35 minutes waiting to talk to tech support to find out why our domain and ALL of our email is DOWN AGAIN for the SECOND TIME in 30 days!! We've been with OLM for two years and GONE are the online Tech Chat, most of the Phone Tech support can BARELY SPEAK ENGLISH and phone waits are getting worse and worse!
AS others have said, the Tech people are pretty CLUELESS and emails I've gotten are nearly unintelligable with 3rd World English! If you're SUPPOSED to be in New England, have coherent English speaking Techs!
Pros: Many PHP-based 'Power Tools',osCommerce, MySQL, PHP Cons: Overall bad and unreliable service. Missing links in osCommerce admin, missing FAQ in support center.
The services of OLM.net are the worst I've ever experienced.
It all went wrong from the very beginning, when OLM.net assigned the wrong IP address to my account, thus making it impossible for me to log into my control panel or even to access my website. This was followed by incidents of server outages or slowdowns. OLM.net's site(s) seem incomplete and several links are missing. The osCommerce option is incorrectly installed and required change of permissions before it can be used propperly.
Customer service / Tech Support generally takes days to respond when a support ticket is opened, and the option to submit the request to a Quality Control department is nothing more than a scam.
Pros: VPS product is great. Some techs are excellent. Cons: Support ticket system is terrible.
Long hold for support.
Sales support is pretty poor.
I've been working with OLM for just over a year. I currently have about 50 domains hosted on a VPS. I suppose they are better than most (not saying much about others ;-) but I have had my ups and downs. Support is touch and go. Sometimes you get someone good, sometimes not. Hold time lately has been terrible (10-45 minutes). Sales support is pretty poor. The main reason why I'm still with OLM is basically they don't suck too bad. Would I recommend them to someone else? Probably not, especially if your looking for Miva Merchant support. Being a Linux novice, I love working with the VPS. It's a great way to learn since you can do a lot via the control panel (Ensim) but sometimes you have to dig in and get dirty with SSH.
Pros: Techsupport was helpful IF you get the right person and IF they even answer phones. Cons: Everything else!!! They are REALLY BAD.
I am currently a customer and plan to change web hosts as soon as possible.
Their servers go down frequently. Whenever a server is down my settings and available services are reset. I have to call them, inform them of the problem, wait for tech support to fix it.
My site has been inoperable for the past 7 days and after hours of being on the phone with tech support things are ALMOST working properly. The most important database I have is still not working correctly.
Tech support does not return phone calls when they say they will.
Durring the last week when my site was down, tech support stopped answering phone calls due to "technical dificulties".
Pros: They answer the phone if their servers are working. Cons: They do not know when the servers are down.
It's hard to find a hosting company that is worse than OLM for at least shared accounts. They were good from 1997 to 2003. Not so good after that. Foreign people now answer the phone and they do not know as much as the old people.
Pros: there are none Cons: terrible response time to server issues, constant server problems, tech support appears to be incompetant
I chose OLM first because of it's feature. But soon realized that going with them was a huge mistake. I constantly have problems with the server. The ftp connection is down, or Miva doesn't work, or login issues with Ensim. If that wasn't bad enough, things are worsen by their bad response time. One time I needed them to correct a DNS problem on their DNS server. They were pointing my domain to the wrong IP. It took them more than 1 week to fix something so simple as that. Another time I tried to setup Miva Merchant which was a nightmare. I couldn't do any credit card validations until I called them. Their response was that I had outdated modules and that I had to update the module myself. In my opinion, I expect the hosting company to do that since they did claim that that the support Miva Merchant and they should be responsible for keeping the files up to date. Bottom line, don't go with OLM, whatever they offer is not worth the trouble you'll receive from them.
Pros: Cheap service. Tech support is very good when they answer their phones. Cons: Reliability is absolutely poor at best. I wouldn't recommend running a business on their servers.
I suffer at least 2 down-times a month. Everytime I report this, I am either told that my server needed to be rebooted, or there was nothing wrong with it and the problem was on my end, even though I had connectivity with the entire outside world except my websites URL. The downtimes run from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Seemingly this is their pat answer for any failure.
The most recent call reporting attempt on a down server on their 800 number was a recording telling me that my call couldn't be completed. I tried their direct line and another recording stated they were not accepting calls at this time.
I'm curous how they are going to explain away this issue on a system reboot or insinuating the problem is on my end.
Pros: I like the control panel Cons: Unreliable servers
Bad Customer service
Lots of Spam and Viruses
The company I work for has a dedicated server with olm and we are ALWAYS having problems with them. We get so many complaints about spam, and we have downtime and mail problems almost every week.
Also, the tech support is not very helpful. We wait on hold about 10 or 15 minutes to talk to some one and they are usually not very knowledgeable. Sometimes if there is an ongoing problem we will hear a different explanation from every person we talk to.
