NEW is the ONLY way to go!

If any of my epinions can influence anyone to make a better decision, I hope it is this one. You should never purchase a used car seat or continue to use yours after it has been in an accident. (EVEN if it is a small fender bender) You should also perform regular inspections on your car seat even if it has not been in an accident.
We only want the best for our children and saftey is the place to start. I would much rather save lives than money. Car seats may not look damaged when in a crash but they may still have weak spots. It is just not a risk we should take.
It is not only accidents that can happen but any pressure the seat was not made for. Our daughters seat is a perfect example:
We would lean onto it as I am sure most do when we put her into it and fastened the straps. Not much weight and we never thought much about it so I was completely shocked when I took the cover off to wash it one day. The car seat had a sturdy styrofoam shell and it was cracked. It was cracked to the point that with just a small amount of pressure we were able to bend the side in where it would touch the other side. We contacted the manufacturer of the seat and it was immediately replaced but had we not noticed that and were in an accident anything could have happened.
The bottom line is always purchase new car seats and use them with care. Inspect them often and if you notice anything unusual do not hesitate to contact the manufacturer.
