DIVORCE DESTROYS
Nov 13 '00
I never thought I would have to deal with divorce again but I was wrong. I am not the one getting divorced but my oldest daughter is, so I have been, shall we say, put in the middle.
I’m in the middle because her two little boys are my grandchildren. The youngest child is being used as a pawn in this game. His father is my daughter’s husband.
Divorce affects the whole family, extended as well as primary. Our lives have been turned upside down by this game.
We now have 6 people living here and sometimes 7 or 8 if our son comes home from college and if one of my youngest daughter’s friends has to stay for a night or two because of weather or car trouble.
Divorce has made me wish for quieter times, more peaceful feelings and just ROOM for myself.
Divorce has taken a father away from his child and also taken away security for both children.
Children need a place where they can feel SAFE, LOVED, SECURE and just plain comfortable. All of this has been taken away from them. Children are the biggest losers in divorce.
I am not lobbying against divorce because I have been divorced too. I just believe that marriage vows are sacred and should be treated as such.
Sometimes marriages HAVE to end in cases such as abuse of the parent or of the children. There was abuse in my daughter’s marriage of her and her oldest son, my son-in-law’s step son. Alcohol was a major factor in this game of divorce as was infidelity on my daughter’s side.
I just think that in the beginning, things could have worked out if both parties had been willing to do some changing of their ways.
Now the children will have to pay the price of this divorce. We the family, will also have to pay the price with the loss of freedom, and possibly having to bring up two more children.
All I can do now is pray for guidance, patience and somehow, a sense of peace in the family.
Divorce destroys the whole family.
