Pros: Good package stuffing for eBay shipping, cartoonist Benson, local sports coverage, online versions Cons: Expensive packaging for shipping, mostly wire service articles, panders to commercial interests, predictably conservative, too many ads, very provincial for a metro paper
About every six months I get a phone call from an Arizona Republic solicitor, who offers me a "free" weekday subscription as long as I pay for the Sunday edition. When they ask me if I ever read the paper, I usually let them know that I...
I have been a faithful reader of the Arizona Republic for over 15 years. As the valley has grown, so has the paper. The only problem with this growth is that it has been in the wrong direction. The newspaper has gotten worse and worse until it has hit...
Pros: Good fireplace starter and bird cage liner Cons: Everything
As the new century dawned earlier this month my beloved newspaper, The Arizona Republic, changed format. I browsed through the new issue and was feeling kind of lukewarm about the change. I expected that after a few days of acclimation I would come to...
Pros: Good website at azcentral.com, showing improvement Cons: Simplistic journalism, needs better local coverage
Phoenix is a great city with a lot to offer. Phoenix is a large city that continues to prosper with thousands of new companies and residents moving their operations and lives to the Valley every day. In fact, Phoenix is the seventh largest metropolitan...
Pros: The political cartoons Cons: Most everything else.
I suppose there was once a day when newspapers sought to report the news rather than to please the majority, keep people happy (well advertisers happy) and make money.
I don't know if the Arizona Republic has ever seen those days. Time after...
I lived in Arizona for over 30 years, my parents always subscribed to the 'Republic,' and so did I. Now that I've moved away, I go back to the online version occasionally.
The only thing that I miss about this mess of a publication is the...
Pros: most media reports right from the paper Cons: need to cover the state better.
ARIZONA REPUBLIC,the title of your paper should be the VALLEY REPUBLIC! why dont you have reporters to cover other citys in ARIZONA? the format is great *but* your news is just about phoenix,at least the times or usa has a little about the restof the...
Pros: Fairly good coverage Cons: Big price difference between new subscriber and repeat subscriber
Shortly after moving to Arizona, we received a call from a representative of the Arizona Republic asking us to subscribe and did so for 26 weeks. I thought the price was extremely high ($102) but didn't research it until I received the renewal bill. To...
I do not have enough energy to write a proper review that would capture this atrocity to newspapers. How can any person subscribe to this paper? Have the residence of Arizona ever been faced with a real paper? The layout is unreadable, ads are everywhere, bias reporting is rampant, stories are blown way out of proportion, facts are obscured, and the subscription price is sky-high.
I assume the reason Arizonians read the Arizona Republic is because they don't know any better. I recommend subscribing to the New York Times or Wall Street Journal. Any paper that requires a small level of education. Arrogant and demanding, yes I am. If local news is what you desire, turn on the TV. At least you won't waste your money and time with this tripe.
