Pros: PRICE IS GOOD and it does a decent job Cons: maybe wont last many years !?
Here we go. Conclusion first : i got it Not too cheap, for Almost usd 200. Not too bad , IF and ONLY IF : you have 120mm size SLIDES or NEGATIVES. if you have only 35mm Slides and Negatives, you have Many other choices... if you dont have ...
Pros: Excellent scans - pictures, documents, slides. Software is no problem. Cons: Scanner cratered in three months, but with Canon's excellent service who cares
I'm not expert at this scanning business, so you won't get a lot of technical mumbo jumbo here. (I'm not denigrating the advice of you techno-geeks out there. I place great stock in your reviews, I just can't provide comparable advice.) I bought a Canon ...
Pros: Top quality flatbed, very good at film, lot of scanner for its money Cons: Not dedicated film scanner quality if that is your primary need
The Canon 8400F is proof that we are getting closer than ever to the panacea of scanning: one that can give good results for flatbed scanning whilst also doing negative and slide film scans well. It would be foolish to suggest this scanner means you ...
Pros: Good overall scanner, great with slides. Good tech support. Cons: Large physical size, somewhat unintuitive software.
I agree with the other reviews to date about this scanner's excellent work with slides. It's good with everything else, too. I had previously used a notebook-sized Canon LIDE scanner, which had no ability to scan transparencies. When it died after 5 ...
Pros: > Great slide scans, easy to use software, fast and quite Cons: > Hard to find at the local electronics stores
My search is over. For the last three months I've been searching for a scanner that is reasonably priced, simple to use, and will give decent reproductions of our family's old 1950s and 1960s 35mm slides. My standards are what I would guess as ...
Pros: Quiet, easy to use. price. Cons: Needs a quick and easy hint sheet on scanning 35mm photos.
I have been wanting to scan in my old 35mm negatives but couldnt fork out $500 for a specialized product so I got a 8400F - it took about 20 slides before I grasped how to use it properly and now my slide scans look great. Its very quiet. Small hint to ...
Pros: A flatbed scanner with fairly good capability for slide film Cons: Glass surface and no definite focus adjustment for film scans
The Canon 8400F is of course a competent flatbed scanner - its claim to fame is the additional capability as film scanner. It comes with adapters for 35mm and 120-type film strips and 5x5cm mounted slides, and provides resolutions up to 3600 dpi; ...
Last scanner standing..............CanoScan 8400F by mknofler ,Apr 29 '06
Pros: Set-up and installs were a snap. Excellent performance. Durable body with floating top. Cons: My grumble, a couple more feet on the enclosed USB would have been nice.
After a long trial and error period the final call was made on what my last scanner purchase would be. After years of film photography and darkroom work I have made the change to digital. The CanoScan 8400F allowed me to keep all my old 35 mm negs and slides in play. This scanner and software has proven itself past all expectations. I have scanned 35 mm negs from 30 years ago and produced final prints of excellent quality. But the deal was even better with the performance of the copy, e-mail, PDF conversion and the flatbed scanning features. All this for less than the cost of a decent flash attachment! It does what it claims to do and nothing less. How often do you see that these days?
Great slide scanner, but didn't last long by dusty_sander ,Mar 17 '06
Pros: Great slide scans which you can batch scan up to 4 at a time. Cons: Slow scanning. Scanner doesn't hold up to moderate use.
This unit isn't fast, but the results are impressive. My old Epson EPS1200 scanner can beat it no problem (meaning much shorter scan time) scanning black&white documents with identical resolution. Color flatbed scans come out pretty well. Color slides come out great. If you have slides of your trip to Jerusalem or White Sands or something else that has a lot of white in it - beware. It takes a LOT of tweaking to prevent the final scan from getting very washed out. The preview will look great, but the actual scan will tend to be much much more whiter to the point that details totally disappear into whiteness. Slides taken under "normal" conditions come out OK. My other complaint with the unit is that after owning this scanner for 7 months and scanning several hundred slides, the scans now come out with blue vertical streaks. The scanning element has obviously gone defective and the unit will have to be sent in. The unit is still under the 1 year warranty, but you might want to check to see if there is a Canon repair facility near you.
Pros: Ease in set-up
Ease of use
Quality of slide scan Cons: can't think of any at this point!
After researching, bought this from Amazon.com to use to scan family slides. I didn't have high expectations, but I am ecstatically happy! I had it hooked up and was scanning slides within an hour! Had no idea how a slide/negative scanner would work, but I'm happy! Also love that the scanner has an off/on switch. And I'm pleased with the Arcsoft photo software that comes with it. Much easier to manipulate than Photoshop Elements! Next I'm on to scanning our wedding negatives!
Pros: Great for scanning documents, comes with Adobe Elements software Cons: So-so at scanning photos
Bought this primarily for document scanning and secondarily for scanning photos. It does document scanning quite well. I'm not as happy with the photo scanning. The area for placing the photo is toward the back of the scanner instead of the front. If the photo is at all curled, it's difficult to hold down the photo while closing the lid. In short, it's too darn hard to get the photo straight on the glass. I was happier with my cheap-o Visioneer in this respect. The colors from this scanner don't seem to be especially better than my Visioneer either.
This is a great scanner when I first got it. I wasnt sure how to set it up so i called tech support and they were just great!
They talked me tru the setup and even helped me do my first scan! I also loved the price you just cant beat the price of this scanner! It isnt a bad price compared to some of the other prices i looked at!
It came with a lot of photo software also! and that was a big help when it came right down to it!
This scanner is easy to use for the people that are not good with computers and also scans like a pro!
Great general purpose home office scanner by barryjeff ,Sep 27 '05
Pros: Well build scanner with good supporting software. Cons: Advanced software features require a bit of a learning curve.
I purchased the Canon 8400F after buying an HP ScanJet 4890 and then returning it in disappointment. The Canon turned out to be everything I had hoped the HP would be and then some. Although I haven't explored all of the 8400F's capabilities, I have found it to be excellent in basic document copying and picture reproduction and touch-up.
This scanner comes with excellent controlling and editing software that allows a rich suite of editing features such as scratch and red-eye removal; color, brightness, and contrast correction; sharpening; and many other capabilities.
Canon 8400F Flatbed Scanner by copper3x ,May 07 '05
Pros: On documents, it provides clear and accurate results, and need I say more! Cons: None that comes to mind
Last Wednesday, I received my order of a new scanner, Canon canoscan 8400F Flatbed Film Scanner. After setting it up and installing software, I've began to scan some documents. Well, after the results I've received, I realized that I made a good choice when purchasing this particular scanner.
My new scanner, tops the old Acer Prism scanner that I once owned. The Acer scanner didn't scan accurately in comparison to my new scanner that provided sharp, accurate and detailed results when it comes to scanning documents such as newspaper or magazine articles. I don't know about the photo thing, because I haven't tried it yet.
Yet my only purpose to buy this scanner was to replace my old and non-working one and to use to scan and copy documents. This Canon canoscan 8400F is worth having and worth the $149.00 that I've paid for.
