Pros: Time shift TV to YOUR schedule, watch while recording, large storage capacity. Cons: Complicated to set up and understand. Will require some study.
I just had a Dish Network system installed. I chose the free 2 room install with the 301 receiver and the 501 PVR. I also bought, privately (from Sears) the 721 PVR I'm writing about. A PVR, or DVR is similar to a VCR. The VR stands for video recorde ...
Pros: Great PVR features, dual tuners, 90 hours of recording time. No Dish-on-Demand fees Cons: Price (Tivo models are cheaper), plus adding additional cabling for the second tuner.
I recently became very interested in getting a PVR due to the scheduling conflicts with some of my favorite shows being on at the same time (Friends, Survivor etc..) So since I am a current Dish Network customer I knew that I couldn't buy Tivo since ...
Pros: Dual tuners, watch and record simultaneously. Easy install, easy interface. On-screen caller ID. Cons: Needs two physical dish connections. Some minor glitches in software.
In September of 2003, my old DishPlayer 7200 died, and I replaced it with the very impressive DishPVR 721 branded by JVC. I bought the DishPVR 721 at Sears. It seems that this was the only place I could find it. Retailers simply aren't carrying Dish ...
Pros: Huge hard drive.
Easy to set record times Cons: Only records based on date and/or day,and time.
Inability to record based on program title!
Other reviews got the good stuff right, but I can't believe that they only barely mention the biggest flaw as if it is OK! I am referring to the fact that this unit is basically a VCR with a really long tape. I like to record reality shows which are ...
One of Dish's Best DVR's by crazysweetguy ,Jan 10 '05
Pros: No DVR Fee,FAST EPG,2 Tuners,Great User Interface,90 Hours Record Time Cons: No Name Based Recording, Price Can Still Be a Little High, Only One Tv Output.
This receiver has some of the best interfaces of any of the DVR's that has ever came out. The Electronic Program is the fastest, there is no DVR fees, two tuners allows you to record two shows at the same time while watching a previously recorded show or watch a live show while recording another. You also get 90 hours of record time. The price has dropped on this receiver so that is not as much of an issue as it used to be. You also get a UHF remote with this receiver which allows you to turn the channels through the walls. There is not going to be any name based recording for this receiver though. It is easy to use and has very few bugs. It even has PIP functionality that you can use even if your television does not have PIP functionality. It also has inputs in the front to connect A/V and turn it to channel 0 to watch it on.
