Pros: Quick, accurate scanning; very low processor load Cons: free tech support may be marginal
Hi, I'm Marty and I'm a recovering Norton user. I've been hooked on Norton twice in my life so far - the first time I was young and stupid, and luckily my system just couldn't handle the Norton SystemWorks back in the late 90's. Later, a friend ...

Pros: Speedy, Accurate scanning, Low Resource user, Features Cons: Really Annoying Pop-ups, Firewall is a little hard to use

Trend Micro Pc-cillin Internet Security 2005
by masterb8 ,May 27 '05
Pros: Cheap 3-user license. Cons: No pop-up or ad blocker. Poor anti-virus.
Great review preceding this one. I would like to add there is no pop-up or ad blocker like that found in Norton Internet Security 2003. While there are freeware versions, it was nice to have this integral to Internet Security. Trend Micro does well against NIS in the processes/memory department, but add a freeware for the pop-ups and will there be a difference???
I don't see the spyware adding value as Spybot and SpywareBlaster are common freeware.
Trend Micro did pass Symantec's online Security test. Hopefully it'll do me the same amount of justice as I felt NIS 2003 did. Though do stay away from CompUSA when purchasing this, their double rebates both require the original UPC from the box, and the box only has one.
Update: I wouldn't recommend. The anti-virus software failed to detect and quarantine several byte-verify trojans. Not sure if that's what they were called, but with the places I was surfing and recalling way back when Norton's instant alerts of quarantine, and then using Trend and not getting any notice, I downloaded the trial version of Norton and sure enough, there were several of these nasties residing on my hard drive.
