pablothegreat's Full Review: 16' Kidsafe Driveway Guard
My daughter is a child with special needs who is known to flee or elope if given any opportunity. So when I enrolled her into a program one summer at a community based center, they had to provide safety measures to ensure that she stayed in the area. I was very concerned as the children there played near a busy street and there were no barriers between the street and play area. Really I cannot see this being safe for ANY child! All my child would have to do is walk a few feet (or run in her case) and be in the street. She was unable to attend the summer program until they had some type of barrier up. That is why the program director got a grant to purchase the 16' Kidsafe Driveway Guard. Since the program is specifically for special needs children, they cannot deny entry into the program based on a child's needs.
My first thought when hearing about this product is how great it would be to have a barrier between the kids and the street to stop the kids from running into the street and possibly being injured. After actually seeing the product in place, my thoughts changed to -you have to be kidding me???
Yes it prevented children from going towards the road IF the child ran directly towards the 16' Kidsafe Driveway Guard. If a child went around it or beside of it or under the netting, they would still be in the road. This is nothing like a fenced in area for a child to play safely. Yes it has a few good points such as being able to retract it unlike regular fencing. Also the children were not knocking it over as I thought they might be able to do. Balls were kept inside the play area instead of going into the street. Cars pulling in and out did get a bright orange visual to stop or watch out as kids were playing in the area. At 16' it is quite large but was not large enough for the large play area space at the center.
As this product is, the center would still have needed at least 2 people to keep guard on each side of the Kidsafe Driveway Guard to prevent my daughter from running in the street so I ended up choosing not to send her there. (This was after about 3 weeks visiting the center with the Driveway Guard set up and playing outside to see how well it would do to keep my daughter out of the road.) The way they setup playtime outside so near the road was dangerous in my opinion.
It includes a bright orange net with poles on each end, and 2 ground sleeves. You can easily see through the netting. I was there as they put it up and retracted it a few times and saw that they were easily able to put it up quickly and retract it quickly. I never saw them have any problems with rolling it back up or it tangling.
Great idea, bad concept? Easily setup. Balls are kept in by it. Cars and children have a large orange visual to stop or slow down.
What is unique about this product?
A driveway barrier to stop cars and children from colliding.
Is it worth the price?
Not for what it does. Unlike a fence that is a physical barrier between the road and children, this is just a visual to stop or slow down.
What does this product look like?
It includes a bright orange net with poles on each end, and 2 ground sleeves. You can easily see through the netting. 16' long and 36" high.
There has to be some bad to this product, right?
This product does not keep children out of the road, they can easily go around it or under the netting. Did not work for our purposes of keeping my daughter safe. Cost is high.
Where can I find this product?
I have only seen it online.
Any warnings people should be aware of?
Even owning this product, parents will need to be closeby to ensure children do not get in the road.

Final verdict:
Good idea, bad concept in action. Did not suit our purposes of keeping my daughter out of the road. Maybe 4 of them surrounding her and enclosing her and the other children would have worked better than just one did. As it was, my daughter could easily go around or under the netting to get in the road and she is likely to do that. I would not purchase this product to use at home as it just does not work for us.
