Our Honda Elite has 9000 miles on it. It continues to run well after all those miles and should go for twice that many easily.
The scooter runs very strong and is fun to ride. The handling seems tipsy even compared to other scooters I've had. It's all a matter of getting used to it, though. This bike is friendly in the extreme and is a great starter-bike. Certainly it is much better than the flood of 50cc Chinese scooters that I've been seeing lately. Unlike the 50's, the Elite will pull itself strong up any hill, though on the steepest you will probably back a little traffic up behind you.
Unfortunately, there are some very cheap items on this scooter. The plastic is incredibly junky. It has now been mostly replaced since it was falling apart from vibration. The quality is just not what I'd expect from Honda.
You can't let this thing sit for more than a couple of days without breaking out the starting fluid. The carb has been some trouble and by bike standards it's a pretty expensive carb to work on too.
Honda does not have the parts available as much as they should for these. I can get a carb kit easier for my 1973 CT90 than for our Elite!
The price is just too much on these scooters. It is awfully close to what you can buy a nice low-end motorcycle for, and while the scooter is in many ways better for the beginner, it is just so much less machine for the money.
I still recommend this scooter if you are okay with the price. This scooter will be around when most of the Chinese cheap scooters have been long dead. I think it is 2nd rate, but only by Honda standards.
