Pros: Handling and low end torque, looks.
Cons: Needs 6th gear for highway, chain drive. Gas tank capacity.
The Bottom Line: Great all around bike that won't break the budget. Won't intimidate the beginners and more experienced riders can have a lot fun on the curves between 3 and 4th.

| zuki800's Full Review: 2000 Suzuki MARAUDER 800 |
Bought this bike used this past fall - 2002 with only 200+ miles. Tripled that the first week I had it. What a fun bike to ride. Bike is responsive and quick, handles well at speed though a little sluggish when going slow. Looks nice and passes the noise test. I can sneak out for a ride on it without being heard. Perfect fit for a person less than six feet, good riding position, and comfortable handle bars. Wish it had a tach and temp gauge, one more gear and bigger gas tank. I may do the Scootworks chain to belt conversion this spring though I hear that you loose some low end performance vs changing the front sprocket. But getting rid of the chain would be nice.
Overall, qood quality and value, there are some obvious short cuts like plastic trim, no gauge set only a speedo but all and all the fit and finish are good and engine is reliable for a carburetored engine but is cold blooded and needs an extended warm up with the choke on when first started - especially below 60 degrees but once it's warm it runs smooth and shifts easily.
From a maintenance perspective the oil is easy enough to change though the oil level view window is a pain - you have to get down on the ground to easily see it and the bike has to be propped up so it is level or it's easy to overfill. Would be nice to have a center stand but clearance is a little low as it is. Engine is water cooled but requires removal of the seat and fuel tank to get to the radiator. Battery is buried under the seat and tool box and is easily forgotten. Passenger seat is small and uncomfortable if you ride two up it will pay to get a replacement seat.
Looking forward to adding after market saddle bags, tach, sissy bar and maybe chain to belt conversion to spruce it up. The 2002 model has the bright yellow Marauder stick-on on the tank - I'd like to remove that and replace with the silver logo but unfortunately the yellow logo was applied to the tank and clear coated - but I did remove the tacky Suzuki name tape on the side panels.
