| bigccrider's Full Review: 2000 Yamaha Road Star |
Before I go off rambling here, let me say the Road Star is with out a doubt the best bike ever made. It will be my last bike unless I upgrade to a newer year Road Star. It can not be beat in looks, reliability, easy maintenance, and comfort. I hope Yamaha never discontinues the design, but only if possible somehow improves it.
I bought this bike just one month ago. I have owned many different bikes and most all of them good machines, BSA, Triumph, Kawasaki, Harley's, Honda, & so forth. Before my purchase I enjoyed a Honda Shadow Sabre 2000 model. After 2 months of riding the Sabre I started looking at other bikes. In & out of every bike shop from LA to San Diego. I thought for sure I had to have a Harley, so my quest would never end until that day came along. I used to ride a Chopped Harley back in the 70's, still remember all the cons with that bike, but oh yes it had the Harley name and it was very good looking and sounding. One day while at a local shop I took notice to a Road Star. What design, I was very impressed. Also I noticed it practically mimicked the design of the Harley. I especially noticed the Midnight Star with that full chrome front end. The price for these bikes new was more than reasonable for everything you get. I kept going in and out of dealerships for 6 months after this, still not finding the one for me. Plus I had my bike to contend with along with my wife, who is not the most supportive when it comes to bikes. After reading as much info on the net that I could find, reviews and so forth I decided a used Roadie would have to get me up & running. eBay became a daily if not hourly search. Still not being able to conveniently see a bike first, gave allot of resistance to placing a bid. But my dreams would still continue day after day. Then I decided to call every dealership I could think of again between LA & San Diego in hopes of finding that one used Roadie that would satisfy my hunger. No go, no used Roadie anywhere. However all the sales people told me to come in and I would get a great deal on a 2002 model. That day on my way home I recalled a dealership that didn't sell Yamaha brand bikes, so in I went. The first sales person to approach told me they didn't sell new Yamaha's but had a used 2000 Silverado. At first I didn't think I wanted a fully dressed bike like that a straight Road Star was in my picking, but lets take a look and see what you got. I was still not sure after looking at it, and believe me this bike had more upgrades then I could ever afford or convince my wife that I needed to have. This bike was truly a beauty to look at. I played it down with the sales rep and told him it was not quite what I was looking for, but believe me to leave there with that bike would be the thrill of a lifetime. Yeah you know the drill the next step was take it for a ride, well I played that down also. I knew I wanted the bike at this point but wasn't sure if a reasonable trade would pursue. Don't you know when I left there I had a bad case of perma smile. Before I got home I got the thumbs up sign from a car on the freeway. Finally I do not have a need to go out and buy a Harley because someone who doesn't know any better says "but it isn't a Harley". I think by now you should know that if you are looking for a bike used or new consider the Yamaha Road Star, you will not be disappointed.
