| snowyegret's Full Review: 2004 Honda Reflex |
I own a 2004 Reflex and I love it. Most of my riding is in an urban setting although I have been on the highway (not the interstate) quite a few times. I consistently get 60 mpg which is a little lower than I originally hoped but is still great. (A lot of stop and go.) My top speed has been about 72 and it was VERY comfortable. It would go faster but I have no need for it.
The Reflex is a quiet, comfortable bike and it is very fun to ride. It has plenty of storage under the seat which, combined with my backpack, allows me to carry quite a few groceries, etc... As a matter of personal preference, I also think it looks a lot cooler than other scooters like the Helix.
Living in an area with mild winters, the Reflex is practical transportation for all four seasons. My wife and I have a car but I almost always ride the scooter. As with any Honda, I expect it to last forever.
When my wife rides with me, the Reflex does ok but the handling is not as good. (Together we weigh about 300 pounds.) According to the manual, maximum capacity is 366 pounds, passengers and cargo combined. I don't recommend a passenger for especially long rides. If you do, make sure the rear tire has extra air.
There are not many negatives to write about. Mainly I don't like riding when it is windy. This is generally only a concern when I use a local causeway (crossing Mobile Bay where I live). Also, the front brake makes a funny noise but that is normal. It isn't loud but I didn't know what it was at first.
The Reflex weighs 370 pounds so it is not that prone to theft like smaller scooters. It is also a very conspicuous bike and there are plenty of security options to deter thieves.
I get a lot of attention on this bike. With gas prices at nearly $3 a gallon, I have received quite a few inquiries when stopped at intersections. This is fine with me as it promotes energy conservation.
It is hard to find the Reflex for sell in a lot of cities but I highly recommend it. I doubt there is a better scooter on the market. By comparison the Honda Silverwings are too big and expensive for my taste and most of the other ones don't have big enough engines. Of course it's all a matter of personal needs and preferences.
One other note... If you are a short person, you might want to look at the Yamaha Morphous. It is a cool bike that rides a little lower to the ground.
