| BrianThomason's Full Review: Kenwood CD-404 5-Disc CD Changer |
I bought this little puppy off of Ubid for $59 + Shipping which equalled out to about $75... (However, it was refurbished and had a Huge dent in the back - It retails for about $200)
The exterior is jet-black, and quite sleak looking in my humble opinion... The buttons on the unit are of good size and placed well on the unit... (Which is quite rare these days - Most electronics now have everything packed on the remote control.)
After you power on though, that beautiful look somewhat fades away... While it has a very crisp two color LCD display, it is very crammed and poorly layed out, and from a distance, it all kind of jumbles together...
The remote control that comes with it is very nice - It fits nicely in your palm, is easy to use, and above all, has plenty of space between buttons...
Enough about appearance and such - Let's get into the meat of the system...
On the back of this 5 Disk CD Changer lies 3 different audio outputs - Good old RCA Analog jacks, A digital coax output, and a digital optical output... SO no matter what receiver you have, this player will compliment it quite nicely. Along with it's 3 audio outputs, it also sports a handy system control output which allows your receiver to control some of its functions...
Unfortunately, I have only used the analog outputs, but on my 100 watt Kenwood Receiver pushing two KLH 12"/5"/3" 3-way speakers, this baby does the job... The volume output can be manged to match that of your other devices so you don't have to be constantly adjusting the volume of your receiver everytime you decide to watch a DVD or whatnot.
All in all, I've been pretty-pleased except for one thing - The cds in this thing spin like a Tornado! Unless you have the volume up quite a bit (which I always do anyway) the spinning noise of the system will drive you crazy! I'v heard of DVD players with this problem, but never a CD changer... It may just be because of my good old dent in the back, but who knows... Buy with caution!
