| edcheung's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-EJ915 Personal CD Player |
I have literally read through almost all the reviews of the best portable CD players available to up to January 2001. I was really intrigued by this Sony D-EJ915 because it is always on the top of all the recommended lists. I looked at Epinions.com, Amazon.com, ZDNet.com, and Consumer Reports. Except for the EJ925 which has just been released and ties this player, this is the best Sony Portable CD player made. The ej925 is about $300 and is PLASTIC but it is very cool also. I also visited literally 6 different electronic stores in LA to look at all the different models.
I WANTED ONE SO BADLY, but I initially bought another one. The only thing that prevented me from purchasing this Player initial was the price. How can you justify paying $200 for a portable player when you can get one from the local drug store for $30?
Initially I purchased a cheaper standard Kenwood CD player with a standard 20 second buffer. Well, it was ok but it did skip with simple walking. Next I moved up to the Panasonic Shock CD Player 860 - Water resistant. This was nice (no skipping) but VERY BULKY and sort of heavy. I returned it.
I caved in and had to buy "the best" of the best CD players. Luckily I found one on sale in LA for $110. After using it for a few days now, I WILL NEVER go back to another CD player again. This is absolutely the smallest, lightest and coolest CD player ever. The rechargeable batteries really do last about 30 hours. The player has NEVER skipped on me yet - even through a vigorous work out and running. STICK WITH THE BEST, IT IS WORTH IT!
Pros: Small size, Very light weight, Great sound quality, Sony quality, long lasting rechargeable batteries, IT DOES NOT SKIP, and Very Cool design.
Cons: Remote takes getting used to, Wimpy carry case, Silly design for the external AA battery supply (which you hopefully will not have to use), Mediocre headphones, and not display on the player itself.
