Pros: Price. Price! PRICE! Great sound and plenty of power for a Small to mid-sized room.
Cons: Remote huge, but skimpy. Instructions vague. Sub has to be on speaker level for stereo.
The Bottom Line: Well worth twice the purchase price. A good way to break into Dolby-Digital or DTS 5.1 sound at a bargain price.

| pohsibnella's Full Review: Sherwood RD-6106 5.1 Channels Receiver |
If you're reading this you are probably wanting to blast off into the 5.1 universe, but don't want to bankrupt yourself in the launch process. You are not alone: Everyone doesn't have hundreds of dollars to spend on home theater. I purchased the Sherwood 6106 about 9 months ago after hours of research into inexpensive surround receivers on-line. In addition to really low prices, I found that most buyers were more than satisfied by the sound and pleased with the build quality of all Sherwood model receivers. After finding this model for less the eighty dollars shipped, I couldn't resist and jumped onto the surround sound bandwagon. The instructions aren't the most clear but set-up wasn't difficult: A couple of hours of stringing speakerwire and placing the speakers and I was off to rent Saving Private Ryan what the little Sherwood could do. Just a few minutes in I was amazed at the seperation and crispness of each channel. Bullets were whizzing all around me and a ring chaotic voices made the battle come to life in a way it hadn't since I'd seen the film in theaters. Recently I've added a sub for added bass and that has only added to my enjoyment of this product. The remote isn't the greatest, but functional, the tuner effective, and the Dolby-Digital and DTS functions are perfect. Don't worry about the 65W per channel. It will be plenty of sound for a small to mid-sized room. I've had no problems with overheating, even at high volumes for 2 or 3 films in a row. So go ahead and confidently purchase the Sherwood RD 6106. You'll be glad you did.
