| dramatist's Full Review: Panasonic RX-ES20 Cassette/CD Boombox |
This is very much a case of 'you get what you pay for'. You've paid for a Boombox and that is exactly what this is - and boy does it boom!
The first thing you notice, as soon as you listen to this unit, is that it is all Bass and very little else. There is no real variable tone control, only different factory presets which seem to be Bass, More Bass and So Much Bass It's Painful!
As a radio, it's fine, as a player of Rock CD's it's fine - as a way of annoying the neighbors it's outstanding BUT, if you, like me , listen to Bach, Vivaldi, Choral Plainsong and the like then this is just not for you. It lacks any subtlety and manages to make the most exquisite unaccompanied choral singing sound just plain vulgar.
If you are tempted by this machine, just be sure what you intend to use it for. As a 'ghetto-blaster' for parties it's fine but if classical music is your thing then you are going to be sadly disappointed.
