Pros: Reads mp3 files ripped at sampling rates below 44khz (eg. 22.5khz)
Cons: The advertized resume button does not work!!!
The Bottom Line: I would avoid this unit if you need the advertised "resume" capability which does NOT work! Other than that, it is a good bargain.

I have bought this unit twice thinking the orginal unit had a faulty "resume" button. Unfortunately, the second unit suffered the same flaw, and I have read similar reviews indicating the same "defect".
While I applaud this unit for being capable of reading DirectCDs and mp3s with sampling frquencies of less than 44khz (some old time radio shows are sampled at 22.5khz which won't play on some portable mp3 players), the lack of a "resume" feature is an inconvenience. If I hit the "stop" button 20 minutes into one of these radio shows, and let the unit sit for over 30 seconds, it reverts back to the beginning of the CD when I press play again, and it does nothing when I hit resume. However, if I hit resume within 30 seconds of hitting stop, it does pick up exactly where I left off, but who in the world would ever need that when you have a "pause" button.
The other flaw in the design is the rear left spring hinge which is visible when the door is open. It is quite easy for this rear left spring hinge to keep your CD from seating properly in the tray. If the edge of your CD is resting on the hinge, the door will close, but your CD will not spin. Nor will the unit tell you why.
The sound quality is adequate, and the unit suffers from "blips and pops" caused by radio wave interferences when I am driving.
For the money, it is a good unit.
11/4/2001 update: The Memorex MPD8507CP just came out and the "resume" feature is improved, but still flawed. It brings you to the beginning of the last track you were listening to if you hit the "resume" button within 1 minute of pressing stop. After 1 minute, the unit powers down to conserve power. The 8507CP has a cooler look and preset equalizers for different genres of music. It has excellent sound.
If you need a unit for listening to Old-time Radio programs, where a single track is 1 hour long and are recorded at 22.5khz, you need a "resume" button that takes you to the exact spot you pressed stop. You should opt for the AVC Soul Player or the RIO Volt (they actually have the same look). Both read OTR formatted mp3 files and both have a "resume" feature that works.
The Lenoxx MP786 and the Supertek EN-318 also both have an excellent "resume" feature that works. However, they do not recognize mp3 files ripped at frequencies below 32khz.
