leep's Full Review: Uniden TRU 3485 2.4 GHz - Cordless Phone
I just bought this phone a few days ago and my family and I really like it. Originally bought it for $100 at Wal Mart but saw it the next day at Circuit City for $80 and returned the first phone.
Good sound quality from the phone and the answering machine. I expected this since Consumer Report recently did a cordless phone review and liked a similar phone. This phone DOES allow you to turn off the ringer which CR said you couldn't. You turn if off and change the ring tone using the volume buttons on the handset instead of a more common slide switch. Some of the buttons on the handset seem flimsy and could be a problem after repeated use over time.
This phone does not have a dual keypad (only on the handset and not on the base unit) although a lot of internet ads mistakenly describe a dual keypad. There is a speakerphone on the base unit which you can use to answer calls or have a conference with someone calling in and someone using the handset.
The phone also has caller ID and can memorize 20 phone numbers including a brief description. The phone uses NiCad batteries instead of the newer NiMH batteries and so you have to charge it for 15-20 hrs for the first time. Phone and answering machine were easy to program. The display on the handset is a little hard to read because the letters/numbers are blue and very thin. The phone has caller ID which we haven't used before but we have now signed up for it with our local carrier.
The phone cannot be hung on the wall because the handset will only stand vertically on the base. This is fine for us since we have it on a table in the kitchen.
Overall we are very happy with the phone. This is our first Uniden phone after buying Panasonic and Toshiba phones before.
