| jag2112's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-E300 Personal MiniDisc Player |
I remember when Sony came out with the first walkman years ago. It was bulky, it was heavy, and it was a battery monster. But was it ever popular! For the time, it was the answer to every music lover's dream - a portable radio and cassette player. Over the years, the walkman, and walkman type players have evolved and gotten smaller. Adding CD players to the mix, and now mini-discs - the musical version of a 3 1/2 floppy disc. Smaller, thinner, lighter and more powerful, these players allow for portability in the extreme. All this, and they're affordable too!
One of the many Sony offerings is the simplistic MZ-E300 model which is a playback only player. Recording is not an option, but this allows for a much smaller footprint and far lighter player altogether.
This ultra-efficient player lets you enjoy up 33 hours of playback from a single "AA" battery. Another convenient feature is the pop-up eject mechanism. Whenever you press the eject button, the lid pops open and ejects the disc approximately 1/2" from the player, for especially easy disc loading and unloading.
Key Features:
* Sstereo headphones included.
* 20-second shock-resistant memory
* Up to 33 hours playback using 1 "AA" battery (not included).
* Digital Mega Bass
* Easy pop-up eject mechanism
* Automatic Volume Limiter System
* Various Playback Modes (repeat, shuffle, program)
* LCD display
* Battery Level Indicator
* Sampling Rate of 44.1kHz
* Audio Compression Method: ATRAC(Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding)
* Outputs: Headphone: stereo mini-jack
* Dimensions: 3-3/8"W x 1"H x 3"D
* Warranty: 1 year parts, 90 days labor
Metallic/Electric Blue color
Street price for this player is around $100, but expect that price to go down by 10-25% in the near future. Quality of the music, of course, is exceptional but dependant on the recorded source of music.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a portable Mini Disc (MD) player and you're not concerned about having recording capabilities, then the Sony MZ-E300 is a great option for you.
Enjoy the music and thanks for reading!
