| saviorboy's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-P7300 Car CD Player |
I have a friend. He loves Sony, lives sony eats sony breathes sony. When we bought our cars, Him a Subaru Legacy, and myself a Subaru Impreza (We are Subie fans) we both talked about what kind of sounds we are decking our cars out with. I went for Pioneer and he was going for sony. Now i picked up my Pioneer DEH-7350 (New Zealand Model) before he had gone for his Sony. He saw it, said damn, then told me he was changing to Pioneer. Thats how good this head unit is. Now I could only afford the head unit at the time and will furnish my Subie out with the speakers, stacker, and amp at the end of this year but the head unit itself is enough to impress.
Sound is near excellent (on my standard 20w speakers), with a bit of distortion once i crank the volume past 40 (max=63). The screen savers are way cool (although i liked last years dolphin display better) but the good thing about this years model is that they have backgrounds. There are 4 in total and they are cool giving cd text display and a primo semi screensaver. Definately good if you want to impress the boys (sound) and the girls (visual).
Now onto the features. This is jam packed with features. It has dual RCA outputs (Front/Rear) and a separate set of RCA's for Subs. It has 5 preset equilisers, and you can make 2 custom ones. The downside is make them. They took me a while to figure out (even after reading the manual twice). Be prepared to spend alot of time only using the basic preset ones. I would have liked to see an enhance bass function which gave you different levels of bass. There is a super bass preset but the bass is too loud (especially on my crappy speakers), and then theres a powerful where the bass is sort of like mid range, but then it also has the treble enhanced as well so until you learn how to work the equiliser youre pretty much on your own. But other than that the sound is brilliant, crisp clear and definately worth the money. Supporting cd-text, as well is ID2, and ID3 tags (It does not support MP3 playback but those familiar with MP3 conversion in NERO will know what im talking about). Supports storage of up to 18 FM stations and 6 AM. The cd is quick to load, in fact very quick. Whack the cd in and in under 4 seconds the music will be pumping out. I find the butons reasonable, FF, RW, Source, EEQ, and volume are easy to navigate while still watching the road. Pause, clock and Entertainment (visualisations) arent. Remote is good but i dont use it much. More of a novelty really. A really good function is whats called SFEQ. It enhances treble in the front and Bass in the back. Really good for when its just you or you and a passenger driving but not good if you have people in the back. Last on the list worth mentioning is ASL. It measures background sound and adjusts the volume accordingly ie when you open the window background sound increases so it adjusts the volume. Good idea but just bad implementation. Dont bother with that function. Too inconsistent
Summary:Primo head unit. Buy this head unit for the visuals and the sound quality as they are both top notch. Enough features to keep you occupied for months (literally). Alot of headunits produce good sound, but this one does it with style and flair and leaves all competitors standing with their mouths open. Get the DEH-6300 if you are a bit tight on dollars as its just a downgraded model with all of the good features and none of the useless ones (but is missing the separate sub out RCA channels
