I am an avid reader of the classics, and so, when I read this book, I was quite surprised at it. Although it was written nearly 200 years ago, it is understandable and easy to read. The descriptions it in seem like Defoe actually remembered his childhood. This where I have to agree with the last reviewer:there is no way that Defoe could have remembered in such detail the plague when he was only 5 years old at the time. Maybe the story is from other people's recollection, but definitely not all his. Another kwirk of the story are the statistics in the beginning. Other than that, the book is a wonderful telling of a grotesque time in history.
