I bought my copy of this book over eBay because it was only 8 bucks, and I have never read an Iain Banks book that I didn't like. I certainly wasn't disappointed with this one.
Banks has successfully created a complete alternative world in the space of a novel, AND gotten me to believe it. He writes with such a flair that is impossible not to get drawn into the plight of the characters. This is definitely a book that is worth reading and loaning to a friend, if you don't mind parting with one of your treasured Iain Banks books.
This is definitely a typical Iain Banks book - it is tense, well-constructed, and it draws the reader into the book. I couldn't put it down!
