First of all, I am not a diabetic. I am a Clinical Dietitian who works with diabetics. I am also hypoglycemic so someday I will probably become a diabetic. I have a much cheaper blood glucose monitor at home, but this is the monitor we advice our patients to get. It works wonderful.
Pros:
1. Easy to use. Well, all monitors are fairly easy to use. You put the strip in the spot, squeeze out a little blood onto the strip at the correct spot and wait a few seconds. The display then shows what your glucose level is.
2. Stores past readings. If you are anything like me you may not write down what the reading is. You read it and then act accordingly. This little monitor stores readings so you can just look them up.
3. Can get averages. We hook this monitor up to the computer when the patients bring them in. The monitor shows the average readings for each time of day for a certain amount of time. This really works well
Cons.
1. Cost. It is kind of expensive as far as monitors go. Plus, the test strips are way expensive.
2. Still have to prick yourself. I wish there was a way to check blood sugar more easily without pulling out the lancets and having to draw blood.
Overall: I would recommend this to my patients. I wish I could afford to buy one or my insurance would cover it because it is the Cadillac of monitors.
