Advantage STINKS

Pros: Not even one if you value your time.
Cons: Slow counter, slow shuttle service, rude employees, dangerous drivers
The Bottom Line: I will never rent from them again! Will pay double to rent from a reputable company like National, Thrifty or Hertz.

I reserved a car for a 4 day trip to San Diego and Advantage had the lowest rates. Never used them before but hey they are a prefered vendor on Expedia (not sure why) so i figured they must be ok (wrong).
We arrived at the airport and a helpful driver picked us up and brought us to their office. This place was pretty sketchy looking, but we we're in SD two weeks before and used Thrifty which was great and they had a sketchy office as well.
We arrive and get in like 3rd position at the counter, one counter agent and 2 or 3 zombies walking around not doing anything productive to help the rush, just intermitantly chatting with the only one working and slowing her down to an even more lazy pace. One character i particularily notices limping around with slacks and white oxford shirt and a pack of smokes in the front pocket just make me nervous and angry that we needed to wait almost an hour just to get our damn car. By the time i finally got to the counter I was informed that our full-size car was not available and the only other option was a PT Cruiser (hate those things). With no other option and no patience we took the damn POS Cruiser and made off for the hotel...
Ok on the the return. We bring the car back way early because we have a 16 month old that we like to play hard with at the airport for a couple of hours before each flight so she will sleep on the plane (smart eh). So we drop the car and the inspector tells us a bus will arrive in 10 minutes to take us to the airport. Sounds great!
15 minutes goes by, then another 10, then a bus pulls up and everyone shuffles over to get on board. The door doesn't open, but a man, the man with the slacks and smokes from before limps out and says "this bus aint going nowhere", "i got to get to my other job", "blah blah blah". So he informs us after his tirade that another bus will be along shortly (yeah right). We wait another 10 - 15 minutes and now i'm getting irritated. It's been a solid 45 minutes and there's nothing in site that resembles a ride back to the airport. At this point i go back in and find some back office with the slow counter agent and the jerky limping bus driver with a crappy attitude and lots of jobs. I tell them we've been waiting almost an hour and have a flight to catch and this is becoming damn unacceptable fast. The woman tells me a bus will "be right along shortly" LOL, cmon this is just too funny now, that must be the Advantage fight song "coming right along"...
Fast forward another 10 minutes (an hour now), the limpy man comes out and barks "I WILL GIVE YOU ALL A RIDE TO THE AIRPORT RIGHT NOW" "LETS GO". Yes he's yelling at 10 or so customers to get on the bus now! So we all get on the bus because it's finally time to get to the lovely SAN and go home. He watches as everyone loads, no help from this man today, unlike the usuall smily driver helping and being friendly, the man was bitter and mad at the site of us.
So we get on the bus loaded and ready to go, 10 souls just looking for the "courtesy" shuttle that is so common amoung off-site rental agencies these days. The man, the driver with more than one job gets on and instead of quietly driving off to the SAN he gets up and once again barks "I AM DRIVING YOU TO THE AIRPORT" "IT'S NOT MY JOB BUT I WILL GET YOU THERE" "THE OTHER DRIVER HAS BEEN DELAYED AND NOW I HAVE TO BRING YOU" "I HAVE ANOTHER JOB, FULL TIME, 8 HOURS THAT I WILL NOW BE LATER FOR BACAUSE I HAVE TO DRIVE YOU TO THE AIRPORT", "SOMEONE'S GONNA PAY", NOT SURE WHO", "BUT SOMEONE WILL PAY FOR THIS", "IM ON OVERTIME NOW", "I DON'T WANT TO BUT I WILL TAKE YOU TO THE GD AIRPORT", "NOW WHICH AIRLINES ARE PEOPLE FLYING?".
Oh my god, we've just been berated by the "driver", he's so mad he's driving erratic and the luggage is nearly falling off the luggage rack. Huge suitcases are swaying back and forth while people are sitting there in a state of shock at what just happened...
Not sure what else i can add to this...
The driver got $0 in tips from that bus load.
Never again!
