grays's Full Review: Sena Jeter Naslund - Ahab's Wife: Or, the Star-Gaz...
I read this book because it was chosen as the book of the month for a book club I am in. It took me a good month to finish it, and I am not a very slow reader. The book is long, but if you can manage that, it is superbly entertaining.
The story runs parallel to Moby Dick, telling the story from Captain Ahab's wife, Una. Her saga is quite an adventure, from dressing like a boy and pretending she is a cabin boy on a whaling ship, to helping a young slave girl escape to freedom. She takes you on quite a wild ride, surprising you with what she is going to do around the next corner.
The characters in the story are deeply woven, and likable. I really enjoyed it, as did the other members of my book club. I recommend it to anyone, as long as you aren't looking for a quick easy read.
