Pros: Great sound, easy to use, look cool.
Cons: Big speakers.
The Bottom Line: I definitely recommend these speakers because they have great sound and look good. What other reasons do you need?

I bought these speakers hoping to use them for music, CDs, games, and the occasional movie. So far I love them. Thanks to the high power and quality the sound is super clear, even at high volume levels. Altec rates them as having "143 Watts Total Continuous Power RMS" - significantly higher than most PC speaker systems where the average seems be closer to 40 watts total. You can crank these things and still get clear sound.
The speakers are easy to use - everything plugs into the sub woofer with color coded wires. The wires are long enough to let you put the speakers and volume control reasonably far from the sub - I'd guestimate the wires were about 12 ft or so. The seperate volume control (like a remote control) lets you turn the speakers on and off, as well as adjust the volume. It makes it nice not having to reach over to the speaker for volume, but it also adds one more wire to run. I also like the separate volume knob on the sub - sometimes too much bass is annoying.
One problem I've found with these speakers is there size. I'm planning on using them for music and movies, so the big size isn't an issue for me. However, the sub is pretty big and the satellites aren't exactly tiny. If you don't have much space you might (unfortunately) have to consider other speakers. Another minor issue is the lack of any way to determine how high the volume is set. You can raise and lower the volume, but nothing tells you if you're at max volume or somewhere in the middle. If you're not careful you can turn these on and start blasting before you realize what happened.
