| kgrady's Full Review: American Girl - Bitty Twins Playdate outfits |
My mother could not wait until my daughter was old enough to get a Bitty Baby. Two years, and two matching Bitty Baby/girl outfits later, we made a visit to American Girl Place in NYC.
When we entered the shopping phase of the trip, my mother wanted to buy my daughter and Bitty Baby matching American Girl t-shirts. Since our Bitty Baby only has dresses, I pointed out she'd need something to wear with the t-shirt. The jeans paired with the shirt were for American Girl dolls and wouldn't fit Bitty Baby. I toyed with getting the Travel 2-in-1 set for Bitty Baby ($34), but then noticed the Bitty Twins Playdate Outfits for $44. We don't have Bitty Twins (my daughter really doesn't play with Bitty Baby enough for me to justify another set of baby dolls), but my son has a Potty Scotty doll, so I figured my daughter could have the girl outfit for her Bitty Baby and my son could have the boy outfit for Potty Scotty.
The outfits are really cute.
The girl gets:
* Blue knit turtleneck sweater with an embroidered flower in the middle. The sleeves have red, orange, and green stripes. The sweater has a Velcro strip up the back making it very easy to dress the doll.
* a blue denim pleated skirt
* orange tights with red flowers
* Mary Janes
* an orange scrunchie (We don't use this since Bitty Baby is bald.)
The boy gets:
* A green knit sweater with an embroidered car in the middle. The sleeves have red, orange, and blue stripes. This sweater also has a Velcro strip up the back making it easy to dress the doll.
* jeans
* an orange vest
* green socks (to match his sweater)
* orange high-top sneakers (we used to call them "Chucks")
They also come with a little story book, The Bitty Twins at Play, but that book disappeared when it came into the house before I even had a chance to read it.
I was reluctant at first to spend $44 on doll clothes -- but I am very pleased with this purchase.
My daughter doesn't play with the girl outfit that much. She and Bitty Baby wore their American Girl t-shirts with a skirt, tights, and shoes to school one day, but that's pretty much been it. Bitty Baby spends most of her time sleeping in her cradle, usually naked.
My son, on the other hand, has Potty Scotty dressed up in the sweater and jeans and they do things together as "brothers". The clothes are so easy to put on the doll, he dresses his brother himself -- something he can't do with the clothes that came with Potty Scotty. They are a bit too big, but they look really nice and I think it makes the doll look "older" than the baby blue clothes he came with.
The quality is excellent on these clothes, there are no missing seams and the detail work (e.g. embroidery, little snaps on the jeans and skirt) is great.
I think the jeans and denim skirt make the outfits very versatile -- you could just get t-shirts for the dolls to wear in the warm weather and now you have the entire year covered. (I can't believe I just wrote that about doll clothes, but it's true!)
The Bitty Twins "Wagon Collection" and "Stroller Collection" starter sets now include this Playdate outfit which are both good buys if you want to get some extras for the dolls.
