| dandino's Full Review: American Hydron Hydrovue 55 Biomedics 55 Contact L... |
I've been wearing contacts since I was a teenager. I could not stand wearing glasses because they were uncomfortable and I hated the fact that my entire field of vision was not covered.
So I begged my parents and they allowed me to get contacts. I was given Biomedics because of my brother-in-law's reccomendation and also that of my optomitrist.
In the past years, I've had opportunities to try several different brands of contacts including Accuviews and some sort of daily wears that never needed cleaning. My orriginal optomitrist was very big into giving out free samples of other ones. I guess he was getting deals on these, but it dosn't matter. I figured it was worth it to try for free. I went back to the Biomedics every single time. They are by far the most comfortable lens. I'm one of those bad contact lens wearers that wear them when I sleep. These are intended to be two week disposables, which removal every night and cleaning every morngin. I generally wear them for a week, take them out for a night to a few days, and then put them back in for another week. I have stretched a single pair into a month's use. Generally however, the max you will get out of them wearing them like I do is 3 weeks. Then your eyes will become irritated and you'll know you pushed the lenses too far. As far as wearing them in my sleep, I have had no bad experiences with this. They stay in position and I have never had a problem with large amounts of mucus around my eyes or bloodshot eyes. The 55 refers to 55% water, which combined with the fact that they are very thing allows air to freely diffuse. Your cornea is living tissue, however there are no capillaries to it. Blood flow would obscure your vision. So it is designed to exchange air with the atmosphere directly and the tissue around it. The biomedics allow air to diffuse quite well. Sleeping with them has never been an issue with me or my brother in law, but I suggest you discontinue this process if you have any discomfort.
These are NOT colored contacts, but you will notice a slight blue line at the edge, this is only there to help you find your contact if you drop it. You will also get used to using it to determine if your contacts are in the correct orientation to go into your eye. When the contact lens is actually on your eye, you will see absolutely no color.
They are fairly easy to use. I've never been good at putting in the lenses, my optomitrist informed me that I have an incredibly strong blinking reflex. I thought he was a genius, I want to blink when I stick my finger in my eye? But anyway.... even I was able to get used to putting these in. After practice, I can easily put them in now.
The contacts come in boxes of 6 tabs. Each tab has a bubble and the lens in it.
As far as durability.... I have never torn a single lens. I don't know if I'm being overly careful, or if its the lenses themselves.
I have only had two problems with these contacts, both times involve me accidentally rubbing my eyes and pushing the lens into the back of my eye. My own fault, and they harmlessly returned to the front of my eye some time later.
A note of caution, some optomitrists will order these for you... at double the price. As long as your prescription dosn't change, order them from the on-line distributors.
