Over the Fourth of July weekend, my family and I took our first trip up to the North Shore, Lake Superior, Minnesota. What a great trip! You may ask, why am I just now writing if I took the trip 4 months ago? Well, its almost 2 am and I cant sleep, when insomnia sets in, write an epinion! Why not?
Anyway, this was our first trip to the North Shore and we had never stayed at an AmericInn before. This was suggested by our friends who traveled with us. I turned out to be such a great experience, we found an AmericInn closer to home just to enjoy the pool!
AmericInn of Silver Bay offers lots of amenities. Their indoor pool includes a 110 foot water slide and separate toddler pool including a small water slide for the smaller kids (the frog slide because its shaped like a frog). The pool was the highlight of the trip. The kids wanted to spend every minute in the pool going down the little slide. The bigger slide was just as much fun for the adults!
They have a total of 61 rooms including the 2 room family suite that we stayed in. This was the one problem we had. The reservation had us in the wrong room. With two small kids, we had asked for the two room suite, but they put us in a regular suite. We were able to change it easily but it involved moving a whole lot of luggage to the other end of the hotel.
The rooms were very clean and decorated in a rustic North Shore sort of theme. The beds were comfortable and the halls were quiet. I had no complaints about the room, once we got the one was had asked for. The staff were very quick to correct the problem and very apologetic.
Other amenities include an enhanced complimentary continental breakfast. The enhanced part is that you can make your own belgian waffles. They were great! The breakfast area was a little crowded and probably could have used a couple of extra tables, but the quality of the food was worthwhile.
They also have and exercise room (which I did not see), refrigerators in room, cribs available, free parking, onsite laundry (which we did need), meeting rooms, rollaway beds, and balconies off of most of their rooms. They have cable TV, free local calls, ironing boards, hair dryers, both smoking and nonsmoking rooms, and they allow pets (in smoking rooms only).
This AmericInn is close to Gooseberry State Park, and Split Rock Lighthouse, so we were close enough to enjoy both of these places.
In short, if you are going to the North Shore of Superior and are looking for a nice, family-friendly place to stay, I would recommend the AmericInn in Silver Bay.
Ask about their Inn-Pressive Club. Stay 10 nights (over any length of time) and theyll mail you a rebate for $40.
