| schrowa's Full Review: Apple PowerBook G4 15.2 in. (M8591LL/A) Mac Notebo... |
OSX is such an incredible achievement for Apple and everyone who uses it quickly realizes why. This operating system is so user and geek friendly that you can't help but like it. It is a beautiful interface and very simple to work with. You can't help but like it. This is even the word from my tried and true Windows loving friends. OSX is finally not only on par with Widows XP, but ahead of it.
The laptop itself is light weight, extremely powerful, and fairly efficient with battery life (between 3-5 hours). That is the only complaint I have heard from owners of it. This is something that was a glitch* and can be sent back to Apple to be fixed. The quality of the build of the product is excellent. From an engineering perspective, it is a marvel from the inside out.
The only problems I have found with the G4 Titanium is the titanium scratches fairly easily. A good case will help prevent this from happening. Apple has several on their website that work quite well.
Other details:
The keyboard is an extremely comfortable and functional layout. The display is flawless and crisp.
Performance is easily as fast as the current top Intel Pentium 4 configurations. If you are doing intensive rendering, movie editing, or other high end work then a G4 desktop would probably be the better choice (especially since the desktops come in dual processor configurations).
Applications that are built into OSX like iChat, iTunes, iPhoto, Mail, iDVD, iMovie, Quicktime, and Sherlock are all excellent. Whether you want to watch a movie, burn a movie, listen to music, or burn music, Apple makes it easy. Sherlock is great if you need flight times, want to shop for a product on several websites, see a movie, or find a file on your hard drive, it can do it all.
If you want a laptop that will serve you well into your years and be fun to work with, I highly recommend you get an Apple G4 laptop.
*- A few owners reported 1 hour of battery life and notified Apple support. The problem was fixed by sending back the laptop and the users were back up to 3-5 hours of battery life.
