| justin3680's Full Review: Apple PowerBook G4 12.1 in. (M8760LL/A) Mac Notebo... |
Apple should pat themselves on their back. Everything about this laptop makes it awesome to look at, not only the design but also the excellence they put into the packaging it. Then there is the easy to read and understand Getting Started Guide. Which makes the set up a walk in the park. Now for me comfort is a big deal so I found the Keyboard to be a joy to my hands. Not only is the keyboard smooth but also the layout of all the keys is awesome. The only down side is the Aluminum alloy casing. I found it to scratch easily which really bummed me out because its so nice to look at. Also I found it to get rather hot at extended usage. When I turned the PowerBook on I was thrilled at the screen resolution. The PowerBook also supports a dual display mode and video mirroring. This means that you can put whats on the computer screen to another monitor or a projector. Apple doesnt mess around when it comes to the graphics card with the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200, which is a particularly good card for gaming.
As for speed the PowerrBook comes equip with a very fast processor and 512MB for memory. With all this the PowerBook flies through applications. The Super Drive, which has the ability to read from and write to DVDs and CDs, is awesome so you can back up all your data to a CD, listen to and burn music on CDs and the ability to watch movies. There is also the Fire wire and USB ports, which are there for the rest of your goodies. The Fire wire is generally used for external storage drives, and the USB ports are generally used for graphics tablets, printers and scanners. Usually the ports are on the back of the computer, which make it a little annoying when attaching your goodies. Instead, they are located on the left side of the laptop. There are also Ethernet, VGA port, speaker ports, headphone jack, power cord input, and a modem port.
The operating system takes a little while to get used to if your used to Windows. You really need to take your time and learn this OS and once you do its really smooth. A few of the other little perks are:
IPhoto - photo editing software, iChat - it's instant messaging, iMovie - digital movie editing, iTunes - is a music organizing and purchasing programmed, Art Directors Toolkit, Test Drive, FileMaker, Graphic Converter and Microsoft Office v.X Pro Trial.
Two other really cool features are bluetooth and the airport extreme. Bluetooth you can use iSync to synchronize all your devices. This allows you to use a cell phone to store addresses on your computer or use the phone as a remote control for iTunes. Airport Extreme makes it effortless to connect to a wireless network. All you need to do is click on the signal strength indicator, select the network you want to hit and your there
If you set the battery performance for maximize battery life you will find yourself easily getting 4 hours of battery life. If I wasnt using the AirPort I got extend battery time. I have found this to be an average battery life for a laptop.
