| mperkins14's Full Review: Arc'teryx Men's Theta AR Jacket |
A super durable and waterproof jacket. Highly recommended over any other alpine jacket on the market. Having said that, there are a few characteristics needing attention.
The jacket's main zipper comes with the standard YKK metal pull - the kind found w/ just about any jacket. For such high quality, a larger one would be nice -- to make for easier grabbing, especially when wearing gloves.
The chest pockets can get confusing. Often your reaching for your stuff in one pocket, when its really in the other or in the small chest zip pocket alongside the jacket's main zipper.
I've noticed that pulling the zipper up past the neck takes a little effort. The jacket's upper chest area naturally folds outward - so getting the water-sealed zipper past that point is not smooth. I often have to use my other hand to fold the jacket inward - in order to assist the zipper to slide all the way to the top.
The fit it somewhat boxy. It is cut low in the front, but the rear drops further down which is nice. This jacket does not have the overall long/tall look as some of the Patogonia alpine jackets, like the Torre and Ice Nine. As said however, I believe the construction of the Arc jackets is superior to those of Patagonia. I understand the Arc Teryx Theta LT is their long version - but the material on the LT is certainly not as thick as the AR.
This is a great all-around jacket, hence the "AR" designation. Its highly breathable which makes for a nice rain jacket during the summer months. During the winter, it is crucial that you layer, preferably with fleece. Otherwise, you will be cold. This is, understandably, athletic/breathable gear - and not a "puff-ball" down filled jacket which act as furnaces.
