The BARBIE Country Ride Bike Set is one of many Barbie paraphernalia items that my daughter received as a gift. This is one of many BARBIE sets that I was thrilled to toss out, as it is a falling apart disappointment.
Intended for use by children over three years of age, this set is meant for use with a Barbie (not included) or similarly sized 12dolls. This country themed bike is adorable in the package. Unfortunately the cute factor gives way to frustration as children attempt to play with the bike.
This set includes an adorable pink bike, a Yorkie dog, picnic basket, white heart-shaped bike basket, and a pink helmet. All items are plastic.
Assembly is required! The set arrives with need for attachment of the pedals. I suppose the fact that the pedals arrive unattached, should give clue to the fact that they arent going to stay on, however assembly required is a frequent need with this type of set. These pedals are simple to snap into place, but as mentioned they also easily fall off.
The poor durability factor isnt limited to the pedals, as the handle bars, bike rack, and certain other bike pieces also fall apart. The picnic basket has a slot on the bottom, intended to snap onto a tab on the bike rack. Unfortunately the pressure from snapping this basket onto the tab causes certain other bike pieces to disassemble.
As a parent, it was very frustrating to see the disappointment that my child experienced with this product. She received this set during Spring, when our family bike riding excursions were gearing up. She was rightfully excited upon receipt, as the bike is adorable. But what young child wants a bike that you can look at but not actually use with BARBIE? None that I know! She attempted to place Barbie onto the bike. These attempts were met with: the pedals snapping off, handle bars coming off, the doggy flipping out of the basket, the basket flying off the handle bars, the bike rack disassembling, and several other product failures. Even attempts to use the bike solo were a failure, as the handlebars and pedals come off too easy.
All was not lost with this set, as the dog was an appreciated accessory, one that was kept after the bike was tossed away. Although adorable in the package, this bike set is a miss, as children cannot play with it.
