Pros: Fit, cushion, workmanship, price for performance dollar
Cons: low cut would be problematic for uneven surfaces or even slight trail running
The Bottom Line: Cheaper and yet almost as good as its bigger brothers. If in doubt or need more features, take a step up, otherwise, this is a good shoe for the price.

| rookshark's Full Review: Asics Gel Cumulus Vi Running Shoe for Men |
I used these shoes for running over the last year, 6-10 miles at a time. At the same time I was using the similarly priced Nike Air Max Motos and ASICS Gel Nimbus among others. It is a testament to these shoes that they fit in well with the previous two mentioned.
To look at them, other than the cut outs of the midsole to show the gel there is not a great deal to grab your attention. My version was white mesh (now of course gray with use) with black and bright blue highlights, as well as a fair amount of 3M reflective material for running at night.
Putting the shoes on gives you that sock-like feeling like the shoes were made for you. Right out of the box running is fine too, no need for any break-in period. As with every ASICS shoe I have owned, these are as good as they are going to get from the first time you wear them.
Cushioning is good. I can not complain really here, and it is hard to put my finger on it, maybe it is just mental, but the Nimbus do feel a touch better. Regardless, on their own merit, you can use these shoes easily without worry of fatigue for normal runs. If you plan on running repeatedly more than ten miles, then I might suggest the Nimbus or another shoe, but for normal training, these are a great tool to add to the chest.
Durability of the upper has been good other than the standard graying of what is mostly mesh. The mesh itself has had no tears, holes or stretching, and the 3M material is also looking as good as new. The midsole is showing some compression, creasing, etc. from use, but nothing more than I expected after using them for a year. The outsole shows some use, but balanced, and not enough to impact the wear or grip of the shoe.
If there is one drawback to the shoe, it would be stability. The low height of the sides does not provide the best feeling for your ankle, and could be even more of an issue for others than it was for me. The base of the shoe is stable enough, but do not think about trail or uneven terrain running in these shoes. If you are treadmilling it, or on blacktop all the time, then it is not a concern, but any moving between levels or terrain would make me a little uneasy with the low cut.
The Cumulus line for ASICS is neither their basic introductory line, nor their top of the line shoes. It does not have all the bells and whistles of its big brothers (the Impact Guidance System for one), but it has what counts, that lovely GEL cushioning in the heel and forefoot. This shoe is great for those that do not have worries about structure, support, pronation issues, or the like. If you run normal and just want a good pair of shoes, this is a good ASICS option.
