| acongojada's Full Review: Atkins Diet Bake Mix |
My mother has been on and off the Adkin's diet more times than I can remember. She always had good to average results, but found it very hard to get through the first couple of weeks on the plan. She recently decided to give it another go, because she heard that Dr. Adkin's had introduced some new products that she felt may make the diet easier for her. She made a trip to the local GNC store, and came home with several of his new products to try, one of which was the bake mix.
My lovely mother does not enjoy cooking. I am a chef, so I volunteered my baking skills to her, to see what I could do with this bake mix. These are my experiences.
I started by trying to make the basic bread with the recipe that was included. The recipe made a very thick batter. It was a really easy recipe, and I didn't expect to much because without the carbohydrates, HELLO!! how COULD it be very tasty? (Spoken like a true carbohydrate addict). The Bread did not rise very much at all. The taste, well, all I could taste was soy, but, I guess if you were really desperate, It might be better than no bread at all.
I did try something different that was pretty successful. I used some of the dry mix, and added an equal amount of crushed almonds. I used this to coat chicken for frying. The chicken fried to a nice golden color, and she said it tasted pretty darn good.
There were other recipes to try, but these are the only ones I have experimented with so far.
My main suggestions for people wanting to try this product are this,
If you absolutely cannot handle a diet without bread, give this mix a try. It doesn't taste that great, but if you top it with lots of butter or cheese, it might help your cravings a bit.
If you don't like the bread this mix produces, try it as a coating for frying meats, in combination with crushed nuts, or maybe even alone. Also, give some of the other recipes that are included a try, you might just find one that you like, and they all seem very easy to prepare.
